11-30-2011 Bluefins Announce Incentive for Raffle Fundraiser - Our fall 2011-12 raffle fundraising drive is in full swing and we would like to thank you all for your generous support of the Bluefins. We hope to use these funds to continue to offer a high quality, fun program for all of our members. As previously mentioned, the funds we raise will go directly towards the costs of a new electronics system as well as funding our spring team champs expenses. We will draw the winning ticket at our Christmas party on Friday, December 9 th. In order to properly recognize our members’ efforts, we would like to offer two incentives to those who are working the hardest. First of all, the names of the three members who have sold the most tickets (having returned those tickets to Alain Boulet by Monday, December 5th) will be placed in a hat and one winning name will be drawn. This winning member will receive ½ off his (or her) membership fees for the 2012-2013 swim season (NB. This discount will not apply to the meet fees portion of the membership, plus the member must return for the 2012-2013 season, in order to claim the prize). Second of all, the member who has sold the winning raffle ticket (for the Jamaica trip) will also receive a prize. Thank you all once again for your generous support of the Bluefins. 10-13-2011 Equipment is gradually arriving... if you require additional equipment not previously ordered then send your request to equipment @bluefins.ca Equipment that may still be ordered: goggles, fins, bags, boards, pull buoys, paddles, water bottles. Clothing is no longer available. We may place another order in December if enough kids require clothing. 09-26-2011 Upcoming Officials Clinics One of the best ways to see your child compete at swim meets is as a timer on deck. Bluefins Officials will be offering two timing clinics in October at the Beaconsfield Recreation Centre - Tuesday, October 4, 2011 and Friday, October 7, 2011. 09-24-2011 Junior Fins Programs begin week of October 3, 2011 - Given the unplanned Beaconsfield Recreation Centre repairs that are finishing next week, we have had to make some alternate arrangements for a number of the groups. We have opted to have the Jr Fins program begin the week of Oct 3rd (one week later than scheduled). We will also extend the program by one week at the end to make up this time.
09-23-2011 Bluefins Training Schedule September 26th - October 2nd. We have had a very successful and passionate start to the swim season this week, despite our schedule challenges. To-date the City appears to be on track with repairs and our schedule and group hours at the Beaconsfield Rec Centre should be back to normal beginning on Monday October 3 rd. Thank you all for working with us and getting your kids to the other pools for these two weeks. In the mean time, here is the schedule for the coming week (Monday to Saturday). You will notice that we will have an extra half hour at the Dalbe Viau High School during the week. The B Groups have been spread out (2B and 4B at 5PM ; 1B and 3B at 6PM) in order to give the swimmers more space in the lanes. The A Groups (1A, 2A, 3A, 4A) times now extend to 7:00PM. The pools are the same as this week.
09-22-2011 Bluefins Alps results Once again our Bluefins swimmers had a great summer of swimming, showing excellent results at both the ALPS Sections Finals, held on August 13th and ALPS all around Final, held on August 20th. 09-02-2011 Start of the Bluefins 2011-2012 season : An orientation meeting will take place at the Beaconsfield Recreation Gym, Saturday, September 17th from 2pm-4pm The Elite and 4A season will begin on Monday, September 12th with a week of dry land training. All other groups will begin on Monday, September 19th (Groups 1B and 2B on Tuesday, September 20th). Junior Fins programs will begin the week of September 27th. 01-27-2011 Festival d'Hiver P1 February 11-13 This is a provincial championship meet for swimmers 11 years and older with P1 standards. Bluefins is a private club run by a committee of volunteer parents. To maintain club fees at the current level and help run the club efficiently it is the responsibility and expectation that at least one parent from each family helps either as an official or with hospitality. We have had a great start to the year with many new members being trained at all levels—we now need your help! The meet will consist of 5 different sessions with over 50 volunteers required at each. Please remember all volunteers are offered refreshments and meals before and during the sessions, as well as priority parking—it is great way to enjoy the meet and encourage your child's swimming. Elite, 4A and 4B group swimmers not participating in this competition are expected to volunteer for at least one session. Here are the warm-up and start times (times are subject to change): Friday February 11 2011: warm-up starts at 16h00 (4pm); the meet starts at 17h00 (5pm) Saturday February 12 2011: warm-up for the Preliminary session starts at 8h00; the meet starts at 9h00. The Finals session warm-up starts at 16h30 (4:30pm); the Finals start at 17h30 (5:30pm) Sunday February 13 2011: warm-up for the Preliminary session starts at 8h00; the meet starts at 9h00. The Finals session warm-up starts at 16h00 (4:00pm); the Finals start at 17h00 (5:00pm) Officials should check in at the beginning of warm-up. Please reply by email before Tuesday, February 1st by indicating: 1) Your name 2) The officials position you would like (ex: timer, stroke and turn, etc.) or hospitality, runner, program seller, security, medals distribution 3) Name of the swimmer(s) in your family 4) Your availabilities. 12-14-2010 Monthly Update :
One last update before the Christmas holiday period. A very warm thank you to Christina Abboud, Tracey Rowe, Lynn Houston and the entire team who planned and pulled off a tremendous Bluefins Christmas Party. Thank you as well to all of the volunteers who provided food and their time to the cause. I think it will be long remembered, by kids and parents alike. It was great to see so many Bluefins families there enjoying some holiday spirit. Thank you as well to Innotech Aviation for donating the services of the DJ and team (Global Events) plus providing the Dominos pizza. The skits were as entertaining as always…with fantastic participation from all swimmers and groups. Some memorable performances, to be sure
We have now pretty much completed the first part of our swim season; just one more meet for the older swimmers, before we take our Christmas break. Congratulations to all of the swimmers who have swum well and in many cases achieved personal best times.
Treasurer update (Dominic Tetu) : Thank you to everyone who have submitted their payments per the plan. September Swim Fees, Meet Fees and Equipment cheques have all been deposited in accordance with the schedule communicated previously, by the Treasurer. For those with special requests or for whom the listed cheques were not deposited, the Treasurer will be contacting you in the New Year for next steps. The Brantford meet cheques for those members who participated will be deposited the week of January 3rd. Finally, the 2nd and last cheque for Swim Fees dated February 1st will be deposited on February 3rd.
Meet manager update (Sarah Marshall) : Happy New Year!! During training time on Saturday January 8, 2011, the Bluefins will be putting on a Time Trial specifically for the longer distances (800 free, 1500 free and maybe 400 IM). Swimmers will be contacted by their coaches as to their specific event(s). Please be generous in volunteering for timing duties and other officiating jobs. The Bluefins will be hosting the annual P1 Festival d'Hiver on Friday, Saturday and Sunday Feb 11 - 13, 2011. This is a very important home meet for the Club. Planning is already well underway for this big event - we expect around 325 swimmers from 14 clubs. If you have items for a raffle table, or a contact for sponsorship, please step up and let me know meets @bluefins.ca! Also, all offers to help will be accepted and very much appreciated. We will require 30 officials on Friday afternoon, as well as 30+ each on both Saturday and Sunday. Please expect a notification from our Officials person 'par excellence', Katherine Ward ( officials @bluefins.ca). Thanks for your support and your enthusiasm!
Officials Update (Katherine Ward) : Congratulations to our new FNQ Level 2 swim officials: Cori Williams, Beverly Leith & Jeannie Willett; great job! The November clinics had excellent turn-outs; we qualified 9 new stroke & turn judges and 7 new starters .Thank you to everyone who attended and to our instructors David Ward and Sarah Marshall. Two clinics are planned for January; Clerk of Course and Recorder/Scorer. Volunteers are still needed for the CAMO Provincial 1-2 de Noel, to be held on December 17 th, 18 th & 19 th. Please reply to officials @bluefins.ca if you are able to help out.
Fundraising Update (Alain Boulet) : A warm thank you to everyone who purchased tickets and attended the Montreal Junior hockey game last week. It was a tremendous success and a great family event. We did make a small profit and that money will go to fund our Bluefins programs. We hope to purchase a block of tickets for another home game, later in the year, so stay tuned. Another fun event that we will be running again this year, is the Comedy Night. Once we have finalized a date and ticket purchase options, we will communicate the news to you all.
Swim Schedule Update (Russ Franklin) : Please view the Holiday training Schedule. There are some time changes and obviously some off-days, so please be sure to keep this information handy. All of the coaches are pleased with the Team Members' participation and results at the 7 meets we have had so far this season. They are looking forward to the results from this weekend at CAMO and the upcoming meets in the New Year. We hope that attendance over the Holidays is good (please get to the pool whenever you can), but first and foremost enjoy some time with your families.
Pictures update (Beverly Leith) : Thank you to everyone who has placed orders for Group Photos. I will be at the pool on Friday between 6 and 8PM with the prints, for those who placed orders at the Christmas Party. Please bring your $10, if you have not already paid. As well, we will be taking new orders for any of you who may be worried you have missed the cut-off date. Please let us know if you need them before Christmas, otherwise it is likely that we print any orders received between now and the holidays, the first week of January.
11-25-2010 Monthly Update (Simon Robins)
Hello everyone, A short update to close out the month of November : Congrats to all swimmers who have raced in the recent meets. We are getting closer to the Christmas break. There is one more swim meet left for the P1-P2 swimmers at CAMO in mid-December. The next big meets for the younger swimmers will be in the New Year. Thank you again to everyone who helped out on deck, in hospitality and other roles this week. Thank you as well to Sarah Marshall, Katherine Ward and Michele Bordo in coordinating a very successful BBF Invitational meet. Visiting clubs were extremely positive on their experience (swimmers and officials) which bodes well for next year’s participation level (and BBF revenue stream).
Please note the date change. We will now hold our Bluefins Christmas party on Friday, Dec 10th, from 6 to 9PM. Evening workouts will be cancelled for those groups who ordinarily swim during those times. As usual we will have a raffle and door prizes and skits performed by the various swim groups. Christina and her team have volunteered to help organize the event and will be reaching out for additional assistance and contributions as we get closer, in order to make it memorable. Please also help out where you can.
The 2009-2010 group pictures are now posted on the board at the end of the pool. These are the retakes, that we did in the pool, to give them a different look, this year. We will be posting them on the website, and if any of you would like to purchase copies, we will sell them for $10 each. Please send me an email if you are interested. We will also have a table at the Christmas Party, for those who would like to order photos, then. Our plan is also to post the pictures of all current Bluefins swimmers/coaches who hold either individual or relay records, on the board between the change rooms. This list of swimmers includes Michael Luck, Guillaume Bergeron-Miron, Sydney Salim, Alex Laroche, Philippe Robins, Riley Critch, Jenna Thompson, Pascale Robins, Diana Mitroi-Banu and Kayla Zakuta. Two of our esteemed coaches and one board member, Etienne Paquet, Amelie Flynn and Katherine Ward, also still hold records. We should have this completed, in the next week or so. 11-25-2010 Montreal Junior Fundraising Update (Alain Boulet)
We still have a number of tickets available for the hockey game on Friday, Dec 3 rd and are encouraging all swimmers and families to attend. Tickets are being sold by Alain Boulet, who will be at the pool again on Friday, for $15 each. All profits go to the Bluefins. Given this is a fundraising event, swimmers will be excused from Friday evening workouts to attend.

11-02-2010 Message from the webmaster : This website is developped using "framesets". This is an old development approach and is not well supported by the Google Chrome browser. Main problem is the frames (top, right, left and main) are not refreshed automatically when a page is loaded. The consequence is that when a user visits the site for the first time, everything appears Ok but, if the same user makes another visit after updates are made to any of the frames, the updates will not appear. To force a refresh, the user has to right-click on the frame and reload. If you use Microsoft Internet Explorer or Mozzila Firefox, everything works fine. We have not tested with Safari (Apple). It appears Google does not plan to resolve this and we dont plan to redo the site without framesets to accomodate Chrome. Our apologies for any inconvenience to Chrome users.
